In winter Charlotte Pass Village is only accessible by over snow transport (Snowcat) from Perisher. This 45 minute scenic snowcat trip to Charlotte Pass gives a sense of adventure to staying at Australia’s highest alpine village. As you cannot leave your car at Perisher overnight, the easiest way to get to Perisher is to park at Bullocks Flat (20 min drive from Jindabyne) and catch the Skitube (a small train) to Perisher.
The regular snowcat service leaves from the Perisher Valley Ski Tube terminal and needs to be booked in advance. This service will take you to the front door of Arlberg. Plan to be ready at the Charlotte pass oversnow transport counter 15 minutes before your service departs.
For more information on transport times and to make your snowcat booking please call 02 6457 5315 or visit the Charlotte Pass Website. Note some baggage restrictions apply.
Getting to the Snowcat
Please note, you cannot leave your car parked at Perisher overnight from where your snowcat departs. Therefore the easiest thing to do is leave your car in the free overnight carpark at Bullocks Flat (20 min drive from Jindabyne), and catch the Skitube to Perisher.
To find the Bullocks Flat overnight carpark: Head west from Jindabyne on the Kosciuszko Rd, then in 1km turn left on the Alpine Way – this junction is marked with a sign to ‘SKITUBE’ (be sure to look for the sign, it appears on the LHS just before the Shell service station and can be easy to miss). Drive 18 km following the Alpine Way to the right hand signposted turnoff to the Skitube carpark. When you arrive at the carpark drive right up to the train terminal and put out your luggage, before parking your car. There are trolleys available to assist with luggage. This carpark at Bullocks Flat is located below the average snowline.
The Skitube trip takes 15 minutes and tickets do not need to be pre-booked. For more information including timetable, please call 02 6459 4565 or visit the Ski Tube Website.
